Get involved with tree planting

All those green heads… they’re always saying, “Go plant a tree!” but no one really comes up, hands you a tree, and makes it easy do they? Well, good news it really is easy to plant trees where you live. The Arbor Day Foundation has all sorts of ways you can get involved and plant some trees AND you don’t even have to wait for Arbor Day.

First of all you can get involved with a local tree planting organization. There are organizations in each state that can offer more info on tree planting.

The Arbor Day Foundation has numerous resources available for individuals and companies that can help plan, organize and execute a tree planting event in any community. Events usually go like this – the foundation will help you plant anywhere from 20 to 200 large trees. The foundation will work with local partners to find the best places to plant. Volunteers usually gather in the morning, see a tree planting demonstration, plant trees and assist with clean up. Events usually last about three to four hours. Events are held in fall or spring so contact Arbor Day now to get ready for a fall event. I did one of these in a beach community with Big Sisters of America and it rocked. (My little took a picture of me at the event – see above).

Get a free 24 page Celebrate Arbor Day Guidebook that offers awesome tree planting ideas. The book includes a history of Arbor Day, a planning calendar, poems and quotes suitable for presentations, sample proclamation, information on selecting and planting trees, and more!

See a guide that can help you choose the right tree for your local area. Then learn how and where to plant said tree.

You can even buy trees at the Arbor Day website or join up and get 10 free trees.

If you’ve got kiddos visit the Arbor Day kid’s resource page for free activities, clubs, educational materials for teachers and parents and so much more.

Not up for planting a tree now and then? That’s cool I guess but remember that may mean some bad attitudes.
